Toe Spacers
Give your toes their shape back. 🦶
Decades of narrow shoes push the toes into a wedge they were never meant to hold. Toe spacers simply put them back where they started, restoring the splay that lets your foot spread, grip and balance the way it is built to.
Soft, flexible and easy to wear around the house, at your desk, or during stretching. Start with ten minutes and build up. Most people notice the difference in how they stand before they notice anything else.
Your feet started wide. Shoes narrowed them.
Toe spacers sit at the intersection of two documented facts: footwear narrows toes measurably across populations, and the sole of the foot carries the largest share of the sensory input that keeps you upright. Built on the studies — with the limits stated plainly.
Restores natural splay
Re-opens the fan-shaped spacing seen in infant and unshod feet — while worn.
Better balance in weeks
Improved balance & proprioception test scores within 2–4 weeks of regular use.
Wakes idle foot muscles
A mild strengthening stimulus to intrinsics that go under-used in narrow shoes.
A baby’s foot is widest at the toes — not the ball.
An infant’s foot — or the foot of someone who’s lived in minimal footwear — is fan-shaped and splayed at the tips, not tapered to a point. It’s a repeated anthropometric finding wherever barefoot and shod populations are compared. Narrow, tapered toe boxes are a recent fashion convention, not a biological requirement.
What the comparisons found
A study of 364 runners (168 unshod, 196 shod) found measurable differences in forefoot width and toe splay. A 3D foot-scan analysis of roughly half a million samples confirmed it: shod populations show a significantly larger hallux valgus angle than barefoot ones.
Sim-Fook & Hodgson found a 33% hallux valgus rate in a shod group vs. under 2% in an unshod group from the same population.
Narrow-fitting footwear is a modifiable risk factor for the development of hallux valgus. Bajraszewski et al. (2025), Journal of Foot and Ankle Research; consistent with Nix et al. (2012)
A mapped sensory pathway — with real trials.
Balance is assembled from three streams; on stable ground, one dominates. The sole is one of the most heavily innervated surfaces on the body — a narrow, cushioned shoe partially mutes that signal.
70% somatosensory (feet included) · 20% vestibular · 10% visual.
Restores toe splay & separation
Engages under-used foot muscles
Richer feedback → better balance
Build up gradually.
30 min
Seated & barefoot. Mild stretch/soreness is normal.
Build up
Add 30-min increments; light standing/walking at home.
Daily wear
Extend to several hours, including light activity.
Pair with wide shoes
Benefit compounds with a wide toe box + foot exercise.
The pairing that matters
Spacers provide the stretch; foot-strengthening exercises build the control to hold the corrected position — and wide shoes stop narrow ones undoing your progress.
How it works & the evidence.
| Study | Method | Finding |
|---|---|---|
| Kelly (2014) | Y-Balance Test; toe-spacer + minimalist footwear | Significant improvement in dynamic balance |
| Miller et al. (2014) | Minimal footwear; imaging muscle volume | Increased intrinsic foot muscle volume |
| Abdalbary et al. (2018) | 6-wk strengthening, with vs. without toe separator | Separator + exercise beat exercise alone on HV angle |
| NCT05829369 · NCT07384754 | Ongoing RCTs, adults 65+, fall-risk | Foot strengthening & minimal footwear for balance |
Realistic timeline
Balance/proprioception gains within 2–4 weeks; measurable toe-alignment change is slower — 12+ weeks, gradual and cumulative.
One honest caveat
Once hallux valgus has developed, a 2025 study found a wider toe box alone didn’t reduce forefoot pressure — which is why we pair spacers with exercise, not spacers alone.

Safety & suitability
Check with a doctor first with diabetes, neuropathy, circulation issues, active infection/wounds, painful neuroma, or severe/long-standing hallux valgus or prior foot surgery.
Start slow — soreness is normal, sharp pain is not.
A foot-health habit, not a substitute for podiatric care.

FAQ
Everything you need before adding to basket.
Will these permanently fix my bunions? +
No product alone reshapes bone. Spacers realign while worn; combined with wide shoes + exercise they support gradual change over months. Existing deformity — see a podiatrist first.
How long until I notice anything? +
Balance/proprioception often within 2–4 weeks; toe-alignment change is slower — 12+ weeks.
Can I walk in them? +
Start seated, then light standing/walking at home. Best paired with a wide-toe-box shoe — don’t cram into narrow footwear.
Do they hurt? +
A mild stretch and light soreness is normal early on. Sharp pain is not — reduce time and build slower.
How do I clean them? +
Hand wash with mild soap and water, then air dry — quick to rinse and reuse.
